RIPPLES
Ripples are aftermaths. What do I mean when I say aftermaths? I mean this: If you throw a rock in the water, "ripples will follow as a response to the waters movement;" IE., throwing a rock into a river and movement that follows.
Ripples, may very well be one of the most important Daily Wisdom Word I write about.
Think of this word: Why did I pick it? I think of my actions in any given day, including mistakes I have made in my life. When we "knowingly" make a mistake, we are responsible for the ripples that follow as a result of that mistake.
I made a choice in the past to drink, then drive. This is a good example for this wisdom word.
What happens if I "drink then drive, then hit another car, due to my altered state of mind? Whether I consciously made this choice, or not, I am still responsible for the "RIPPLES" created from my actions. I drove, hit a car because I was drinking and now consequences of my actions cause "ripples".
There will be the "ripple" that the driver was slightly injured. There will be the ripple that my insurance premium will increase. There will be the thought that "people who respect me, may not respect me quite as much.
When I was younger, 10 years ago approximately, I made this very mistake. I did not consciously set out to hurt a driver in a car. However, my actions caused "ripples" just like throwing a stone in the water, and the movement that follows. I am responsible for my actions, conscious or not.
Ripples are those movements we almost always do NOT think about when we make bad decisions.
This is something we can change: We can take our actions and define who will be affected by the decisions we make and carry out. Who will be hurt by the bad decisions? Who will be helped by the good ones?
Recently, I heard from a third party, that someone I am very close to, made negative comments, about me. I confronted the person who made the comments, found out these comments had been taken out of context and forgave the person who said them.
Just two weeks later, the third party person who had repeated those comments, needed help. The person that made the misconstrued comments, FORGAVE her, for repeating them to me, and moved on.
I can't help but think by forgiving this person, the rippling effect of my actions had some impact on this person and allowed her to forgive, and helped this person out, even though she was upset the comments had been repeated.
What "Ripples" do you create? Think before taking actions and who may be affected by them indirectly. It may surprise you to think of how many people ONE DECISION can affect.
We are all imperfect, and God made us this way so that we can learn from our mistakes.
Don't forget if you create negative "ripples" to forgive yourself. SL
